Are all aircraft loans fixed rate?

Adam Answers

Adam answers in August's edition.
Question: Are aircraft loans amortization loans or fixed rate loans?

Answer: Based on the size of the loan, our lenders can offer a variety of different structures. Most loans have fixed rates for the entire length of the loan. There are also options for balloon or adjustable rate structures. With these types of loans, the rate would be fixed for a shorter term (typically 3-7 years) with the monthly payment based on a longer amortization. Balloon and adjustable loans also offer lower rates than standard fixed rate structures. Please give us call and we can help you determine which loan structure is right for your needs.

Question: Does AOPA make loans for purposes other than aircraft financing?

Answer: AOPA Aviation Finance offers two types of loan products. The first uses an aircraft as collateral for purchases, refinancing, and/or upgrades. In some cases, lenders are willing to use an aircraft that is owned free and clear for purposes outside of aviation (e.g. debt consolidation, hangar financing, etc.). In either case, an aircraft is required as collateral for the loan. The second product is an unsecured line of credit primarily to finance flight training and additional ratings. AOPA Aviation Finance does not offer financing for home, auto, etc.
